Joanne Clark Hollins, 74, of Marian, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on December 20, 2008 at the Harlan Nursing Home following a brief illness. Joanne was born December 29,1933 in Deckard, Tennessee. A 1951 graduate of Warren County High School in McMinnville, Tennessee, Joanne received her Bachelor of Nursing Degree from St. Thomas School of Nursing, Nashville, Tennessee in 1954. She practiced nursing at Riverpark Hospital in McMinnville where she served as house supervisor. Joanne met and married Dr. Gordon Hollins during his residency at Vanderbilt Medical Center in 1959. They and their two children moved to Harlan, Kentucky in 1967.

Joanne is preceded in death by her parents Troy Beecher Clark and Myra Safley Clark and sister Lillie Mae Clark. She is also preceded in death by her husband Dr. Gordon Hollins who passed away December 12, 2008.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law Gregory and Laurie Nunez Hollins, daughter and son-in-law Amelia and Gary Gagliano, and grandchildren Forrest, Zachary and Leah Claire Hollins. She will be mourned also by her extended family Albino and Dawn Nunez, Fred and Donell Busroe, Matt and Brandee Nunez as well as their children Hannah and Noah Busroe, and Lauren, Campbell, Ava and Matthew Nunez. A lifelong pet lover, Joanne will be missed by her dogs and cats.

Joanne was an active member of the First United Presbyterian Church of Harlan, The Harlan Women's Club and the Book Club. Joanne also enjoyed crafts and was a skilled seamstress. She made many costumes for her grandchildren to wear for plays, Halloween and other events. She was also a collector of teddy bears, quilts, aprons and other needlework. Joanne leaves a legacy of her artistic handiwork to be enjoyed by her family and future generations.

The Hollins family would like to extend its appreciation to the Daniel Boone Clinic, Harlan Appalachian Regional Hospital and the caring staff of the Harlan Nursing Home.

Visitation will be Tuesday, December 23, 2008 from 4:00pm-6:30pm with a memorial service to follow at 6:30pm. Both will be held at the First United Presbyterian Church of Harlan on Clover Street.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the First United Presbyterian Church of Harlan or the Harlan Band Boosters Club.
