The Harlan Green Dragons were in a generous mood Friday as they gave up 18 hits and committed 10 errors in a 21-10 loss to visiting Cumberland Gap, Tenn.

After a pair of runs from Cumberland Gap to open the game, Jordan Turbyfill and Tyler Grubbs each scored in the bottom of the first to tie it at two.

Jordan Turbyfill, Grubbs, Christian Turbyfill, Colby Wilson and Ben Abraham each scored in the second inning as the Dragons turned a two-run deficit into a 7-4 lead.

Cumberland Gap quickly regained control with a nine-run outburst in the third inning and the Dragons were never able to respond.

“You’re not going to beat anybody when you make as many errors as we did. We were trying to save some of our pitching for next week, but it didn’t work out,” said Harlan coach Robbie Burns. “We did a good job hitting the ball and making contact, but it doesn’t matter how well you hit when have that many errors.”

McNiel gave up 11 runs on 10 hits in two innings to suffer the loss on the mound. Grubbs recorded one strikeout, while giving up four runs on seven hits in two innings of relief. Austin Miller allowed four runs on four hits in one-third of an inning, and Christian Turbyfill surrendered two runs on three hits in the final 1.2 innings.

McNiel and Christian Turbyfill each recorded a double and a single to power Harlan at the plate. Grubbs contributed a double. Jordan Turbyfill had two singles, and Colby Wilson added a single.

Harlan (4-7) returns to action today against Knott Central and East Ridge in the Cordia Wood Bat Classic.
