An Enterprise Staff Report
After letting a pair of games slip away recently, the Harlan County Lady Bears didn’t take any chances in a 10-3 victory at 14th Region foe Leslie County on Tuesday.
The Lady Bears pounded out 17 hits, and junior Katie Johnson turned in a solid performance on the mound as Harlan County pulled away for the win.
Rachel McLain recorded two triples and a single to pace the Lady Bears at the plate. Kaitlyn Stittums contributed a double and two singles. Savannah Sergent had a triple and a single. Johnson helped herself out with a pair of doubles. Megan Ramsey recorded three singles. Bridget Robinson contributed a double, and Bethany Bellofatto, Chyanna Harris and Jessie Johnson each added a single.
“The difference today was that our top three hitters hit the ball. They all had two and three hits and RBI,” said Harlan County coach Howard White. “When those top three get going it catches everybody on.”
Johnson recorded recorded 11 strikeouts, while scattering five hits in the complete-game victory on the mound.
“Katie did an excellent job on the mound and with the bat,” White said.
After jumping out to a 2-0 lead after the first inning, Harlan County trailed 3-2 after three. The Lady Bears got going offensively from that point and scored eight runs in the final four innings to pull away for the win.
Harlan County (6-4) returns to action Thursday as it hosts Bell County in a 52nd District contest. Leslie County (5-6) will host Perry Central.
