Jack Homer Cress, age 78 of Cumberland passed away on Thursday, April 19, 2012, at the Harlan Health and Rehabilitation Center following a long illness. He was born in Virginia but had lived in Kentucky most of his life. Jack was a retired coal miner and believed in the Christian faith.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Elihu and Maudie Caudill Cress; a son, Water Cress; brothers, Albert Cress, Chester Cress and Junior Cress; and sisters, Ruth Johnson and Angelina Sergent; and several other brothers and sisters.

He is survived by his sister, Dorothy Brogdon; four daughters; grandchildren and a host of family and friends.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, April 22, 2012, at the Tri City Funeral Home between 6 – 9 pm. Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 23, 2012, at 1 pm at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Monte Vista Cemetery in Cumberland.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
