The Harlan tennis team split a boys/girls double-header at Middlesboro on Tuesday.
The boys squad downed the host Jackets 8-1 overall.
Top seed Evan Howard defeated Middlesboro’s Eric Francis 8-1 in singles competition. Ryland Atkins downed Christoff Naylor 8-1. Wes Farley picked up an 8-0 win over Owen Collins. Boone Allison claimed an 8-3 victory over Jacob Vogues. Trevor Pryor edged Clay Green 8-6, and Matt Simpson shut out Cody Fee 8-0.
The Dragons won two of the threedoubles matches. The team of Howard and Atkins downed Middlesboro’s Naylor and Collins 8-3. Farley and Allison knocked off Vogues and Green 8-0. Pryor and Mike Simpson fell 3-8 to Middlesboro’s Francis and Fee.
The Lady Dragons fell 2-7 overall to Middlesboro.
Top seed Camille Browning was defeated 0-8 by Taylor Moyers. Harlan’s Jessica Phan edged Madison Saylor 8-5. Yin Chen fell 3-8 to Baylie Brunsma. LalaZheng dropped a 4-8 match against Alex Caldwell. Kaitlyn Bledsoe was defeated 5-8 by Jame Millett, and Katie Hensley Hensley fell 3-8 to Cassie Edwards.
Middlesboro’s duo of Moyers and Chadwell defeated Harlan’s Browning anad Phan 8-0. Chen and Bledsoe fell 0-8 to Saylor and Brunsma. Harlan’s Zheng and Hensley knocked off Middlesboro’s Edwards and Brooks 8-3.
In previously unreported action, the Harlan boys defeated visiting Bell County 7-2, while the Lady Dragons fell 1-8.
Harlan’s Howard, Farley, Allison, Pryor and Simpson each claimed wins in singles competition. The Dragons’ teams of Howard and Atkins and Farley and Allison also picked up victories.
Harlan’s Lala Zheng won in singles competition for the Lady Dragons’ only victory.
The Harlan boys also edged Whitley County 5-4, while the Lady Dragons fell 1-8.
Howard, Farley and Simpson picked up wins in singles action, while the teams of Howard and Atkins and Farley and Allison were victorious for the Green Dragons.l
The Lady Dragons’ duo of Caylin McHargue and Taylor McHargue secured Harlan’s only win on the girls side.
