Cumberland Police Department has made more arrests on burglaries in their area.

Angela Wyatt, 29, of Cumberland, was arrested for second-degree burglary, second-degree robbery, fleeing or evading police on foot, theft by unlawful taking u/10,000, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and terroristic threatening.

Sgt. Silas Whitehead said at approximately 1:20 a.m. Wyatt entered the residence of Ben Browning on Central Street in Cumberland while he was asleep and took money from his residence.

Whitehead said Browning stated he heard someone inside his residence and he went to investigate what the noise was and saw Wyatt exiting the residence.

“While Mr. Browning was calling the police, Ms. Wyatt went to South Street and entered the residence of Ronnie Tippett by force through the front door and attacked Diane Addington,” Whitehead said. “Ms. Addington, who lives at the residence, was inside when Ms. Wyatt entered and started punching her several times in the face knocking several teeth out.”

Whitehead said Wyatt took Addington’s purse out of the residence and dumped it out on the ground outside, took several dollars from her and then fled the scene.

Whitehead said officers located Wyatt on Wood Street and she fled when she saw the police.

“Officers pursued Ms. Wyatt on foot and she was captured hiding under a house,” Whitehead said. “She became combative with officers and had to be controlled by pepper spray. Ms. Wyatt was taken into custody by officers Jason Blanton and Britt Ross.” Whitehead said during his investigation, he learned that Wyatt threatened to use physical force on two other females before she went in Browning’s and Tippett’s residence and took money from them.

“One of the females is pregnant that she threatened and told her that she would kill her baby if she called the Police,” Whitehead said. “Ms. Wyatt took $100 from her and $40 from the other. Ms. Wyatt made the two females take their clothes off and when she found their money she told them she would kill them if they reported it to the police.”

Whitehead said the two females came forward after learning that Wyatt was arrested.

“The total amount of money reported stolen from all that were involved was found in Ms. Wyatt’s pocket,” Whitehead said.

Wyatt was lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center. More charges are pending on Wyatt, this matter is still under investigation by Sgt. Silas Whitehead.

Whitehead was assisted in his investigation by officers Jason Blanton, Cody Williamson, Britt Ross and Harlan County Sheriff’s Deputy Matt Cope.

Whitehead said while the above investigation was going on, a burglary in progress call came in. Whitehead said upon officers’ arrival they caught Willie Turner, 19, of Cumberland, and a juvenile at the residence of Bobby Nolan on Kingdom Come Drive trying to gain entry in the residence at the back door.

Both Turner and the juvenile were taken into custody by officers Blanton, Williamson, Ross and deputy Cope.

Turner was arrested and charged with second-degree burglary and lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center.

The Juvenile Court Service was contacted and he was lodged in the Breathitt County Juvenile Detention Center on the charges of third-degree assault on a police officer, second-degree burglary, menacing and disorderly conduct.

“I’ll give all the credit to my officers on solving these cases — they were on their A-game tonight,” Whitehead said. “I feel we have put together some of the best officers in the state. Their patrol skills are the best I’ve ever seen. After the past few months like we’ve had, they deserve a pat on the back.”

Chief C. Wayne Creech was complimentary of his officers.

“These guys have worked very hard on solving these cases as they come in and continue to answer all the other calls that come in,” Creech said. “I commend these officers on a job well done.”

In another investigation, an arrest warrant was served on Teddy J. Reese at the Harlan County Detention Center.

Whitehead said Reese was involved in the burglary of Movies-To-Go in Cumberland in March.

Whitehead said Reese entered the business through the back door.

“Later on, material was seized at a residence that Mr. Reese was staying at in Cumberland that was taken from Movies-To-Go,” Whitehead said. “An arrest warrant was also served on Mr. Reese for receiving stolen property when property was found at a residence where he was staying belonging to Debra Wyatt, of Cumberland.”

Whitehead said more charges are pending against Reese. Whitehead is in charge of the investigations.
