The Kentucky State Police arrested Tyler Buell at 1:40 a.m. Friday at Wallins Creek after he allegedly assaulted a man and robbed him.

Trooper Russell Maynard said he received a complaint that Roger Asher had been assaulted at 92 Coal Bucket Road at Coldiron.

“I met with Mr. Asher, who stated that Tyler Buell had assaulted him and robbed him,” Maynard said. “Mr. Asher had a severely busted lip and cut on his mouth. There was blood and blood spatter on the kitchen counter from the assault. According to Mr. Asher, after he was assaulted, Mr. Buell took $368 from his wallet and then threw the wallet on the ground. Mr. Buell stated that if the law was called he would kill Mr. Asher.”

Maynard said that Asher called 911 from a neighbor’s residence. Maynard said that he and Trooper Joey Brigmon went to Buell’s residence in Wallins Creek, but were unable to locate him.

“We parked approximately 200 yards down the road to talk after leaving the residence,” Maynard said. “As we were talking, we saw Mr. Buell running across the road onto his property. He was located in a nearby gully of kudzu and subsequently arrested without incident.”

Maynard said he took Buell to Post 10 for an interview and read him his rights.

“Mr. Buell said he pleaded the 5th and did not want to talk further,” Maynard said. “While en route to the jail, Mr. Buell made a voluntary statement without being questioned that he and Mr. Asher had been in a fight today. He stated that Mr. Asher had been in several fights this same date.”

Buell, 26, of Wallins Creek, was charged with second-degree robbery and lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center.
