Mike was born December 7, 1944 in Mary Helen, KY, the son of Reid and Faye Brock. He was Harlan High School alumni, and a 1969 graduate of Eastern Kentucky University, where he was active in his fraternity Beta Omicron Chi (later Sigma Chi). Mike spent his 40-year career entirely in the pharmaceuticals industry, beginning in sales in the early 1970s, and progressing to Government Affairs for both Parke-Davis (Pfizer) and Purdue Pharma, where he will be remembered for successfully lobbying many bills, creating initiatives to the benefit of the states he represented, and making lifelong friends with many colleagues along the way.
In his retirement, Mike enjoyed traveling and playing golf with his friends and wife, and had recently relocated from Georgia back to Kentucky to be closer to his children and grandchildren.
Mike is survived by his wife of 43 years, Carolyn; his children Neil (Wendy); Amy (Ted O’Connor); grandchildren Caleb and Rachel; brothers Randy (Terri) and Rick (Cindy); brother-in-law Bucky Thomas (Rosalyn); and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends to mourn his passing.
The family requests, in lieu of flowers, donations made in Mike’s name go to Mary Helen United Methodist Church, Hospice of the Bluegrass, or Sharp Methodist Church (Young Harris, GA).
