It’s back — the eighth annual Harlan County Ridge Runners (HCRR) Summer Stampede, which will be at the Verda Event Field on Saturday. Registration for events begins at 10 a.m.

Rated one of Harlan County’s best off-road racing events, HCRR President Bill Troutman said this year’s stampede will feature ATV and UTV pole bending and the popular sled pulling where off-road vehicles race pulling anywhere from 500 to 1,000 pounds to the finish line.

“We’ll have an obstacle course, head-to-head drag racing and the popular kids’ racing and obstacle course,” said Troutman. “Everyone loves watching the kids and the fun they have during their racing events. There’s never a dull moment. It’s a day filled with lots of activities for the entire family.”

Trophies will be presented to the top three finishers in the pole bending and sled pulling events. In the obstacle course event, first place in each division will receive $25 and trophies will be awarded for second and third place. No trucks or dirt bikes will be allowed during the events.

“In the head-to-head drag racing, the overall winner will receive $100,” said Troutman. “The second place winner will receive $75 and the third place winner will receive $50. As always, the kids will receive trophies for their participation.”

Troutman said all food and other vendors are welcome to attend the event free of charge with no set-up fees.

“We’d like to see a lot of organizations participate in this event,” said Troutman. “We usually have a large crowd and this is a good time to set up and sell your wares. The Harlan County Ridge Runners will be on hand to sell event T-shirts and other ridge runner items.”

Cost for the event is $5 per person at the gate and children under the age of 12 will be admitted free.

“Come out and enjoy the day with the Harlan County Ridge Runners. You don’t have to participate to attend.” said Troutman.
