If fighting against cancer is a crime, then lock Harlan Daily Enterprise Advertising Manager Wylene Miniard up. Harlan County’s most wanted fugitive, Wylene Miniard, is still on the loose after 35 years of selling thousands of inches of advertising to local businesses. A warrant is out for her arrest for trying to raise awareness and funds to help those who suffer from cancer.

In conjunction with the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life, Miniard will be apprehended, booked and jailed at 2 p.m. on Friday at the Harlan Food City where she will have to post a $250 bail before being released.

Miniard will have to solicit pledges from friends, family and co-workers to raise her bail. All bail money will be donated to the Harlan County Relay For Life. The annual Jail and Bail fundraiser sends otherwise law-abiding citizens to the slammer where they will stay until they can post their bail.

“I need your help,” said Miniard. “I’m pleading with all my friends and businesses I’ve served throughout the years to come by and drop some cash in the bucket on my behalf. I’ll need to get out and sell more advertising.”

Miniard said “it’s all in fun and for a good cause.” Miniard, who has friends and loved ones suffering from cancer, said this is a cause “close to her heart and she hopes everyone will stop by and donate.”

Along with Miniard there will be several other local business people put into the slammer that day including Certified Public Accountant Troy Gaw, Jewel Craft employee Penny Farley, Harlan ARH Hospital CEO Dan Stone, Harlan Daniel Boone Clinic Administrator Sharon O’Roark, Rax Owner Bill Douglas, Food City Designated Assistant Manager Josie Shepherd, Harlan’s Kentucky Farm Bureau Insurance Agency Manager Roger Fannin and retired veteran Robert Smith, of Disney.

“Just remember you are donating funds to help raise money for the fight against cancer — a fight for lives to be saved,” said Miniard.
