Images of the Kentucky Coal Academy’s nationally award-winning Mine Rescue Team are now on display at the Kentucky Coal Museum in a newly-curated exhibit celebrating the devotion and courage of coal miners who volunteer their time and efforts for mine rescue work. Also on display are pictures of Black Mountain Resources’ Mine Rescue Team, which claimed the National Championship in 2011. Both teams will be competing in late July at the second annual Harlan County Safety Days Mine Rescue Competition, which is organized by the Cumberland Tourism Commission and hosted by Southeast Kentucky Community & Technical College. Kentucky Coal Museum Curator Phyllis Sizemore looked over the compelling images with museum volunteer Barbara Ayers. A photograph of a Kentucky Coal Academy Mine Rescue Team member competing is one of the many images on display.
