Paul Edgar Haywood, Sr., 70, of Tremont, KY passed from this life on Sunday, July 1, 2012 following a short illness. Paul was a former partner in Crystal Coal Company and was a skilled welder. He currently was owner and operator of the Tremont Service Station. He also served in the U.S. Army.

Paul was one of eleven children born to the late Harrison Haywood and Nella Sellers Haywood.

In addition to his parents, Paul was preceded in death by a son, Paul Haywood, Jr.; two sisters, Marty Haywood and Lela White; and five brothers, Oscar, Victor, Robert, Willard and Donnie Haywood, Sr.

Left to mourn his passing are three children, Crystal Haywood and Keith Haywood, both of Tremont; Cammie Haywood Wiseman, and husband Ben, of Illinois; former wife, Carolyn Haywood, Tremont; seven grandchildren, Caydence Haywood, Nathan Haywood, Kayla Skidmore, Kelly, Kevin and Makayla Wiseman, and Dale Haywood; several great-grandchildren; a sister, Margie Chambers, Flint, MI; two brothers, Gus Haywood, Harlan, KY; Joe Haywood, Ypsilanti, MI; and three sisters-in-law, Evelyn Haywood, Dorothy Haywood and Della Haywood of Wallins, KY.

Also surviving are special friends Ken Saylor, John Simpson, Zeke Williams, Bill North, Bobby Lee and John Smallwood; a special niece that he enjoyed spending time with, Lanette Haywood Pace, Wallins, KY; as well as a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, friends and loved ones. Paul’s family wishes to express their appreciation for all the love and kindness shown to him.

Paul loved laughing and fellowship with his family and friends. The highlight of his day was the time that he spent with granddaughter Caydence Haywood. She was the apple of her Papa’s eye.

Paul never met a stranger. A chance encounter in the Tremont Service Station could prompt an invitation for coffee and conversation with well-known friends and relatives, to unknown and soon-to-be friends, especially in the evenings until as late as closing time. Paul touched the lives of many people with his trademark smile and generosity, and maintained his sense of humor all the way to the end.

The family will receive friends on Friday, July 6, 2012 from 6 pm until 7 pm at Harlan Funeral Home. Funeral services will immediately follow at 7 pm with Pastor Pete Rowe officiating.

Interment will take place Saturday, July 7, 2012 at 12:00 pm at the Park Howard Cemetery at Wallins. Military Rites will be presented by the Harlan Honor Guard.

Pallbearers will be John Simpson, Zeke Williams, Robert Haywood, Nathan Haywood, John Smallwood, Kevin Wiseman, Ben Wiseman, Jim Garrett and Donnie Haywood.
