Tri-City junior stars edge Harlan

The Tri-City All-Stars edged Harlan 4-3 in the first round of the District 4 Junior League Tournament at Corbin recently.

After Harlan regained the lead with one run in the top of the seventh inning, Tri-City rallied for two runs with two outs in the bottom of the inning to walk away with the win.

The Harlan All-Stars committed all three of their errors in the final inning as Tri-City mounted the comeback.

Nick Jarvis scored the decisive run when Josh Lee reached on an error to left field.

Lee, Malik Simmons, J.T. Cabbell and Brendan Rutherford each had one single for Tri-City.

Lee pitched the final 1 and 1/3 innings to claim the win on the mound. Rutherford struck out five batters in the first 5 and 1/3 innings in the start. Sean Johnson turned in 2/3 inning of relief.

Jared Sizemore struck out nine batters and gave up just two hits in five innings in the start for Harlan. Gage Burkhart struck out two batters in the final two innings in the loss.

Andrew Saylor doubled to pace Harlan at the plate. Sizemore, Burkhart and Cameron Carmical each added a single.
