Accepting a new position with the Kentucky Department of Education in a field-based position, Harlan Middle/High School Principal Stacy Noah submitted her letter of resignation on Thursday. Her resignation will become effective Sept. 15.

“While I’m very sad to leave the school and students, my new position with the Kentucky Department of Education will allow me to grow professionally and spend more time with my family,” said Noah.

Superintendent David Johnson verified he did, in fact, receive a letter of resignation from Noah on Thursday. He said this would have been Noah’s sixth year as principal at Harlan Middle/High School, having previously taught English and served as Assistant Principal under Principal Shelia Smith.

“We appreciate the service Mrs. Noah has given to our students, their families, our school and community while serving as principal of our middle/high school,” said Johnson. “She has done an outstanding job and I’m confident she’ll do a fantastic job in her new position. We wish her the best.”

Johnson said he has already met with the school council and they have begun the process of selecting a new principal. He said they hope to have someone in that position as soon as possible.

“If possible we’d like to have someone selected before Mrs. Noah leaves in order to have a smooth transition,” said Johnson. “While we don’t want to rush into a quick decision, we do want to make the right decision as quickly as possible. Anyone interested in applying for the principal position may contact the Harlan Independent School central office (573-8700 option 6) for application documents. Those who are interested should apply as soon as possible. We hope to begin the interviewing process very soon.”
