Roxie Pryor, 102, of Evarts, passed away Monday, September 3, 2012, at her home following a long illness. She was born January 22, 1910 in Lynch, Kentucky. Roxie was a member of the Yocum Creek Baptist Church. She had the honor of being a Kentucky Colonel and an Honorary Harlan County Coal Miner.

Roxie was preceded in death by her husband, Paris D. Pryor; her parents, John and Rachel Sheets Hurley; a daughter, Marcella Pryor; two sisters, Ocie Creech and Julie Ruth; and three brothers, Daufas, Hascue and Ottas Hurley.

Survivors include nine children, Pauline Howard and husband, Willis, Dayton, OH; Dorothy White, Evarts; Thelma Lane and husband, Harold, Dayton, OH; Wilburn Pryor, Evarts; Willard Pryor and wife, Jean, Corbin; Clarence Pryor and wife, Norma, Evarts; Linda Cornett and husband, Bob, Evarts; Ralph Pryor and wife, Iva, Evarts; and Raymond Pryor and wife, Kathy, Evarts. She is also survived by a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Wednesday from 5 until 8 pm at the Evarts Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 8 pm with the Reverend Paul White and the Reverend Larry Parker officiating.

Burial will be Thursday at 10 am at the Evarts Memorial Gardens. Her family will serve as pallbearers.
