The Cumberland Redskins downed visiting Evarts 46-22 in seventh- and eighth-grade football action on Tuesday.

Joey Swanner had three touchdowns to lead the Skins in the win. Swanner ran for 120 yards on five carries. Tyrese Simmons added 58 yards on six carries with a touchdowns and a two-point conversion. Donald Kelly had 59 yards on five carries and a touchdown. Hunter Nease returned a kickoff 55 yards for a touchdown. Chase Coker scored on a 25-yard run. Sean Johnson passed for a two-point conversion and Devon Rodrigues ran for another.

Ethan Baird connected with Lamar Burkhart for a 46-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter for Evarts’ first touchdown. Baird threw to Jake Napier for the two-point conversion to make it 30-8.

Baird threw to Napier for a 5-yard touchdown pass. Bush added the two-point conversion to cut the Cumberland lead to 30-16 with 1:59 left in the third quarter.

After a Cumberland touchdown, Napier returned the kick 75 yards for a touchdown to make the score 38-22.

Cumberland added an insurance touchdown in the final minute.

Evarts rolled to 30-0 win in the fifth- and sixth-grade game to improve to 4-0 on the season. Christian Jones ran for 180 yards on four carries and Brendan Osborne added 135 yards on two carries to lead the Wildcats.

Osborne scored on a 52-yard run in the first quarter. Jones had the two-point conversion.

Jones scored on a 71-yard run later in the opening period for a 14-0 lead.

Osborne scored on an 83-yard run in the second quarter. Quarterback Josh Burkhart contributed the two-point conversion.

Burkhart scored on a 22-yard run in the third quarter. Trent Smith added the two-point conversion.

Evarts plays host to Stinnett today.

In previously unreported action, the Cumberland Redskins turned the tables against Letcher Central.

After losing a heartbreaker last Saturday 30-28 on Aug. 25, the Cumberland Redskins defeated Letcher 48-30 last Thursday. Swanner had three touchdowns and an interception, Coker, Simmons, and Nease all had touchdowns and 2-point conversions that put the redskins on top.

New Harlan fell 6-0 to visiting South Laurel in fifth- and sixth-grade football action Tuesday.

South Laurel converted a fourth-and-11 play in the fourth quarter in its game-winning drive.

Jesse Cochran scored 11 points while Jordan Brock and Callie Wilson added 10 each as Harlan rolled to a 58-21 victory Tuesday at Barbourville in seventh- and eighth-grade basketball action.

Harlan fell 14-12 in the fifth- and sixth-grade game.

Brown led the Lady Tigers with eight points.

Emersyn Noah scored 10 for Harlan.

Harlan lost to Stinnett 46-27 in previously unreported fifth- and sixh-grade action.

Harlan travels to Middlesboro on Thursday.

The two teams played to a 6-6 tie in the fourth-grade game. Hayley Key, Jaylin Smith and Kaitlin Caldwell scored two each for Evarts.

Abbygail Daniels, Chasity Sullivan and Elina Turner scored two each for JACES.
