Bruce Marvin Penix, 47, of Dizney went to the garden to be with his mother Thursday, September 6, 2012. Bruce was born January 17, 1965 in Harlan County and had lived here all of his life. He was a disabled coal miner and believed in the Baptist faith.

Bruce was preceded in death by his mother Betty Jean Canady Penix.

Survivors include one son, David Penix, Kenvir; his father, Ovie Penix, Sr., Dizney; two brothers, Ovie “Frosty” Penix, Jr. Pounding Mill; and Roger Penix and wife Lisa, Pennington Gap, VA; and one sister, Connie Penix, Dizney. Also surviving are eight nieces and nephews, April Peace, Kristalee Penix, Kelsey Penix, Kaylin Penix, Roger “R.J.” Penix, Jr., Eli Penix, Owen Penix, and Madilyn Penix; three great-nieces, Breana Bailey, Jillian Bailey and Jadeyn Bailey; one great-nephew expected soon, C.J. Caudill; and two special friends, Doug and Diane Burkhart.

Visitation will be held Sunday from 1 until 4 pm at the Locust Grove Missionary Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, September 9, 2012 at 4 PM at the Locust Grove Missionary Baptist Church with the Reverend Dax Taulbee and Reverend Paul White officiating.

Burial will follow in the Evarts Memorial Gardens with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
