Staff Report

A Bledsoe man died from injuries he sustained when he wrecked in Leslie County on Sunday.

Leslie County Sheriff’s Deputy Kevin Short said Jimmy Holbrook, 62, appeared to have driven his pickup over a bridge coming to rest in a creek bed.

“I was called to the scene at approximately 9 p.m. on Sunday,” said Short. “The wreck occurred on KY 2008 near the Cedar Chapel community in Leslie County. Upon my arrival, the Bledsoe Volunteer Fire Department was already on the scene. I observed a Toyota truck on its top in the creek bed with Mr. Holbrook trapped inside the vehicle.”

Short said the bridge was a small one-lane structure with no railings. He said there were no other passengers in the vehicle.

“From what the family said, Mr. Holbrook was on his way to a local coal mines to pick his wife up from work,” said Short.

Also assisting at the scene were Stinnett Volunteer Fire Department, Transtar Ambulance Service and the Leslie County Coroner’s Office.
