James Eugene Garland, 69, of Dayhoit departed from this life to go to his heavenly home on Monday, September 17, 2012, at the Bristol Regional Medical Center, in Bristol, TN. He was a native of Harlan County and a member of the Riverside Baptist Church at Dayhoit.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Carrie Cox Garland; and his father, Paul E. Garland.

He is survived by his mother, Lucille Griffey, Dayhoit; two brothers, Larry Griffey and wife Eva, Knightstown, IN and Charles Griffey and wife Henrietta, Dayhoit; three sisters, Sandra Hensley and husband Byrd, Brenda Graham and husband James, all of Dayhoit; Glenda Williams and husband Earl, Baxter; Mother-in-law, Sally Ohena Cox, Putney; three brothers-in-law, Pete Cox, Canada; Ralph Cox and Don Cox, Putney.

He also leaves a very very special cousin that was like a daughter, Sharon Kay Anderson, along with a host of special nieces, nephews, and other loved ones.

Visitation will be 12 untill 2 P.M. Thursday in the chapel of Loyall Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be conducted 2 P.M. Thursday, September 20, 2012, in the chapel of the Loyall Funeral Home with the Reverend Robert Jordon officiating.

Burial will be in the Whitestar Cemetery, Dayhoit, KY.

Friends and family will serve as pallbearers.
