The Harlan County Black Bears knocked off 4A power Lexington Catholic 24-18 in freshman football action Thursday at Union College.

Cameron Cornett had a big game for the Bears, including a 3-yard touchdown run in the second quarter and a two-point conversion for an 8-0 lead.

Bobby Huff scored on a 12-yard run later in the quarter. Quarterback Jarett Ford added the two-point conversion.

Lexington Catholic scored one touchdown in the second quarter and two in the third quarter to take the lead before Cornett reached the end zone on a 10-yard run with six minutes left. Cornett also had the two-point conversion.

Cornett led the Bears with 120 yards rushing. Ford had an interception. Huff and Ronnie Haywood led the Bears in tackles.

Black Mountain completed an unbeaten regular season with a 38-35 victory at Rosspoint on Tuesday.

Leah Evans scored six of her 11 points in the fourth quarter to lead the decisive charge. Kaitlin Evans, Leah’s cousin, also scored 11 as Black Mountain improved to 17-0 overall and 14-0 in the county.

Breann Turner scored 10 to lead Rosspoint.

Rosspoint won 39-24 in the fifth- and sixth-grade game as Cassie Farley scored nine and Abby Stevens and Brooklyn Collins added eight each for the Lady Cats.

Alyssa Cochran paced Black Mountain with nine points.
