Australia Ann Rhodes, also known to many as “Muh”, “ Aunt Aus” and “Sister Rhodes”, entered her eternal home on October 23, 2012, after a long illness in which her loving children were her full time and faithful caregivers.

Australia was born on December 30, 1928, to the late Roscoe and Florence Copeland Sweatt. She was married to the late Rodell Rhodes. She was a devoted Christian, who loved the Lord, praying and singing praises until the end. She was a faithful member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church for many years where she served as church clerk, trustee/treasurer, member of usher board and devoted member of the Women’s Missionary. She loved her church and she dedicated her time and money to the upkeep of the church. Australia was a caregiver for many years and also, volunteered at Christ’s Hands. She enjoyed helping other.

Australia was preceded in death by her parents, Roscoe Edward and Florence Copeland Sweatt; two brothers, Roscoe Sweatt and Charles Sweatt; two sisters, Christine Hailey and Hazel Mitchell; three sons, Dan, Gary, and Albert; one daughter, Vickie Wagner.

She leaves to cherish her memories four sons, Joe Rhodes, Ray Rhodes, Rodell Rhodes, Jr., and Mike Rhodes and wife, Michelle, all of Harlan, KY; two daughters, Janet Rhodes, Harlan, KY, and Lori Bolton, Arkansas; 20 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends whom she loved dearly.

She also leaves to cherish her memory three special friends, Della Butler, Katherine Childs and Luther Cottrell.

Australia was a blessing and truly a God send to her family, friends and Harlan and will be dearly missed by all.

Visitation will be after 1 pm Saturday, October 27 at the Mt. Olive Baptist Church.

Funeral services will follow at 3 pm at the church with Pastor Walter Garlington officiating.

Interment will be at Resthaven Cemetery.
