Joe Bill Carter, age 66 of Cawood, KY went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, October 24, 2012 at Harlan A R H. He was born April 10, 1946 in Harlan, KY to the late John C. Carter, Sr. and Nancy Lillian Pope Carter. Joe Bill was employed by the Harlan County Board of Education as a Bus Driver for the past 11 years. He was devoted to his church and a friend to everyone he met.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Madlene Farmer; and his sister-in-law, Charlene Carter.

He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife of 37 years, Martha Farmer Carter of Cawood, KY; his children, Darla Carter Heflin and husband Anthony of Cawood, KY and Rev. John C. Carter III and wife Leighann of Cawood, KY; three brothers, John Crockett Carter, Jr. of Harlan, KY, Jack Carter of TN and Priscilla, Euel Pope Carter and wife Helen of Cawood, KY; two sisters, Joanna Busroe and husband Fred, Sr. of Morehead, KY, and Jimmie Lee Carter of Rio Vista, KY; three grandchildren, Jaycee Carter, Luke Heflin and Lia-Kate Carter; and his father-in-law, Rev. Howard Farmer and wife June of Cawood, KY. A host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends of all ages also survive.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 27, 2012 from 5-8 p.m. at Mount Pleasant Funeral Home.

Funeral Services will be conducted on Sunday, October 28, 2012 at 1 p.m. at the Cawood Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Robert Landis and Rev. Mike Farmer officiating. Burial will follow at the Fields Cemetery in Cawood, KY with nephews and friends serving as pallbearers.
