Staff Report

A one-vehicle crash on U.S. 119 at Keith left a Wallins Creek woman with serious injuries Sunday.

Kentucky State Police Trooper Josh Howard said Bettina Taylor, 29, was operating a 2004 Pontiac Grand Am. AirEvac airlifted her from the scene to Holston Valley Medical Center, Kingsport, Tenn.

Howard said she was traveling south on U.S. 119 when she lost control of her vehicle and struck a culvert off the southbound shoulder. The vehicle became airborne and came to rest on U.S. 119 on its top facing north in the southbound lane.

Several members of the Harlan County Rescue Squad, who live nearby, assisted with the injured woman until an ambulance from LifeCare arrived. The woman was ejected from her vehicle and found in the ditchline.

She is in stable condition at Holston Valley Medical Center.

Troopers Brandon Burton and Josh Brashears, Sgt. Jimmy Young, the Harlan County Sheriff’s Office, Constable Robert Haywood and Pennington’s Wrecker Service assisted at the scene.
