Ellie Nolan and her husband, Edwin, have opened Bledsoe Grill and Grocery in Bledsoe at the foot of Pine Mountain. Completing a renovation from head to toe, Nolan, a Bledsoe native, said residents now have a much needed restaurant and grocery in which to eat and shop and in their area.

With a casual counter and table service grill, you may dine 24 hours a day seven days a week where breakfast and home- cooked meals are served each day.

Breakfast includes gravy and biscuits, bacon, sausage and eggs, omelets and pancakes.

You’ll find lunch specials served from a home-cooked menu each day. Bledsoe Grill and Grocery offers a large range of items on their menu, which include grilled chicken salad, taco salad, chicken salad, kraut dogs, chili cheese dogs, slaw dogs, hot dogs, Stromboli, soup beans and corn bread, Philly cheese steak, cole slaw, hot wings, hamburgers and much more.

“You don’t want to miss trying our Bledsoe Burger,” said Nolan. “Everyone who tries it says it’s addictive. It’s a hamburger with honey barbecue sauce, grilled onions, Swiss cheese and grilled pineapple. It’s one of our most popular sandwiches. We also have a super salad on our menu, which includes ham, pepperoni, olives, cheese, boiled eggs, onions, green peppers and banana peppers. It’s a huge meal for those who love salads.”

Growing up in the Bledsoe community, Nolan said there was a “great need” for a restaurant and grocery in the area. She said she and her husband are happy to be able to give back to the community she has “always loved.”

In the grocery section of the business, Bledsoe Grill and Grocery offers all the staples needed in the home, along with automotive and personal needs.

“We wanted to have a little bit of everything one might need to keep residents from having to travel all the way to Harlan to pick something up,” said Nolan. “We’ve had a tremendous response from the public.”

Bledsoe resident Ralph Turner said he was happy to see the business reopened. He said the food is “great” and the convenience of have a grocery in the community is a much needed addition.

Entering Bledsoe Grill and Grocery, you’ll find all new floors, windows, tables and chairs. The walls display beautiful artwork. You’ll dine in a modern, comfortable and relaxing atmosphere. Inside the kitchen area, you’ll see gleaming stainless steel appliances and work stations.

“We tore everything out and started from scratch,” said Nolan. “We’re very proud of what we’ve accomplished thus far. We hope sometime in the future to add gasoline and perhaps even more. It’s a work in progress. “

“We feel like we are now offering the residents of Harlan County with another option for dining and a convenient place to obtain grocery items they need,” she said. “We also carry the Harlan Daily Enterprise.”

Nolan added, “We invite everyone to stop by and see the changes and sample our menu. We’d love to have your comments.”
