A Knox County woman has been arrested for the murder of an elderly man.

Charlene Sue King, 49, of Barbourville, has been charged with the murder of Earl Carter, 75, of Barbourville.

According to a press release from the Kentucky State Police, at 12:26 a.m. on Tuesday KSP troopers and Knox County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a report of a man being shot at 936 J Goodin Branch Road in Barbourville.

The preliminary investigation indicates Carter suffered multiple gunshot wounds. Carter was pronounced dead at the scene by the Knox County Coroner’s Office. The body was sent to the State Medical Examiner’s office for an autopsy.

King, the victim’s caregiver, was lodged in the Knox County Detention Center.

Previous reports show this is the second murder in Knox County in the last week.

John Chris Mills, 42, of Bimble, George Marcum, 52, of Trosper, and James Wyatt, 33, of Bimble were arrested on Sunday as the result of a joint investigation conducted by the Barbourville Police Department, the Knox County Sheriff’s Office and Kentucky State Police and charged with the murder of Jonathan Foley.
