Elizabeth “Liz” Abner Smith, 62, of Evarts, went home to be with the Lord Monday, November 19, 2012, at her home following a short battle with cancer. A native and lifelong resident of Harlan County, she retired from Harlan App. Reg. Hospital after 37 years of service as a nursing clerk. She was a member of the Blood Bought Church at Cotes.

Liz was preceded in death by her father, Leonard Abner.

Survivors include her husband of 43 years, David R. Smith, Sr., Evarts; her mother, Effie Brock Bean, Louisiana; two sons, David R. Smith, Jr. and fiancé, Chrissy Smith, Evarts; Richard Brown and wife, Tattie, Louisiana; a granddaughter, Taylor Smith, Evarts; and a grandson, Logan Brown, Louisiana. She is also survived by one sister, Loretta Anderson, Louisiana; five brothers, Hershel Abner and wife, Linda, Harlan Abner, Richard Abner and Ernie Abner, all of Louisiana; Donnie Abner, Missouri; and a host of other family and friends, including a special friend, Deloris Smith, Evarts.

Visitation will be held Friday, November 23, 2012, at 12 noon at the Evarts Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 2 pm with the Reverend Bill Baker and Chris Napier officiating. Music will be provided by Harvey Napier, Amber Napier and Bobby Blevins.

Burial will follow in the Evarts Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Harvey Napier, William Baker, Chris Napier, Bobby Blevins, Zack Thomas and Robert Smith.
