A Cumberland man was arrested in relation to a pair of burglaries that occurred on Dec. 15, 2011 and Jan. 18.

Teddy J. Reese, 25, was arrested Tuesday by Kentucky State Police Trooper Brandon Burton on an indictment warrant during a traffic stop.

According to Burton, he performed a traffic stop on Reese and the E-warrant system showed he was wanted on the burglary indictment.

According to the indictment, Reese entered a room rented by Annette Turner at America’s Best Value Inn in Cumberland on Jan. 18 with the intent to commit a crime. Count two of the indictment states that on Dec. 15 2011 Reese entered the residence of Susanna Reader with the intent to commit a crime.

Along with the two counts of burglary, the Reese is charged with being a persistent felony offender. Reese was sentenced on Oct. 6, 2008 to a prison term of one year or more for felony offenses committed when he was over the age of 18 by the Letcher County Circuit Court in Whitesburg. The indictment was handed down by the Harlan County Grand Jury on Aug. 13.

The indictment states that on count three (the persistent felony offender charge) Reese “was still on parole or probation for said indictments or less the five years had elapsed since the completion of the defendant’s sentence, parolee or probation.”

Reese was charged with second- and third-degree burglary and second-degree persistent felony offender.

The burglary case against Reese was investigated by Sgt. Silas Whitehead, with the Cumberland Police Department.

Reese was lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center.

In other police activity:

* Betty Addington, 27, of Harlan, was arrested by Harlan County Sheriff’s Deputy Chris Brewer on Tuesday on a charge of theft by deception. Addington was lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center;

* Curtis Halcomb, 25, of Harlan, was arrested by the Harlan County Sheriff’s Deputy Danny Lewis on Tuesday and charged with theft by deception. Halcomb was lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center;

* Gary Thomas, 32, was arrested on Tuesday by the Harlan County Sheriff’s Office on a charge of second-degree trafficking a controlled substance.
