KSP probes Knox shooting death

Kentucky State Police are investigating a shooting death that occurred in Knox County on Thursday.

According to a press release, KSP Post 10 in Harlan received a call from Knox County 911 requesting KSP at the scene of a shooting in the Walker community. Once on the scene, Jessie and Angela Jaynes advised KSP they had found James W. Cox at their residence when they arrived home. Upon finding Cox at his residence, Jessie Jaynes and Cox were involved in an altercation in which Cox was fatally shot.

Knox County Coroner Mike Blevins pronounced Cox dead at the scene. There had been no arrests Friday afternoon.

The incident is under investigation by Det. Mark Mefford.

Mefford was assisted at the scene by troopers Brian Maupin, George Howard, Russell Maynard, Det. Jason York and Sgt. Jason Bunch.
