Riverside Baptist Church, located in Dayhoit, will host a special singing on Jan. 20 featuring Kevin Wilson during the morning service.

Several pre-admission conferences have been scheduled for individuals interested in enrolling in the Funeral Service Program at Southeast Kentucky Community and Technical College.

The sessions will include a time for prospective students to learn more about the program as well as an opportunity to receive key information about the enrollment process, program requirements and an overview of the profession. The program is headed by SKCTC Professor Denise R. Shumate, and the program began at the onset of the fall 2012 semester.

Pre-admission dates include: Jan. 23 at 5 p.m. at SKCTC Middlesboro campus, Science and Technical Building, room 215; Jan. 28 at 5 p.m. at SKCTC Whitesburg campus, Caudill Hall, Transfer Center; Feb. 4 at 5 p.m. at SKCTC Harlan campus; Feb. 18 at 5 p.m. at SKCTC Cumberland campus, room 102.

Girl Scouts of Harlan County have kicked off their annual Girl Scout cookie sale. Girls will be taking orders until Jan. 30. Cookies will be delivered to the troops the week of Feb. 20 and they will deliver them to customers as soon as possible.

This year’s sale offers eight cookie varieties at $3.50 per box: Thin Mint, Caramel DeLites, Shortbread, Lemonades, Peanut Butter Patties, Peanut Butter Sandwiches, Thanks-A-Lots and Mango Cr’emes with NutriFusion.

Cookies may also be purchased to be donated to our service men and women that are currently serving overseas.
