A two-vehicle crash on U.S. 119 at Tremont resulted in a woman being charged with DUI after she was airlifted to Holston Valley Medical in Kingsport, Tenn.
The driver of a 2001 Saturn, Sylvia Hancock, 38, of Tremont, was first believed to be seriously injured in the crash, but was later treated and released from Holston Valley Medical Center.
According to Kentucky State Police Trooper Jared Boggs, Hancock was traveling south on U.S. 119 around 6 a.m. and crossed the centerline and struck a 2011 Ford F350 truck that was traveling north.
Boggs said Mike Payne, of Wallins Creek, was operating the truck. Payne reported that he attempted to avoid the collision by exiting the northbound shoulder, but Hancock continued traveling towards him. Payne was not injured.
Boggs said he had to travel to the Holston Valley Medical Center following the crash to obtain blood and urine analysis. Once there, he learned Payne was going to be treated and released.
Hancock was cited to court on charges of operating a motor vehicle under the influence, failure to produce an insurance card and no registration receipt.
Boggs said the vehicle she was operating was registered to Tommy Chasteen, of Tremont.
Harlan City Police Officer Britt Ross, the Wallins Volunteer Fire Department, Pennington’s Wrecker Service and LifeCare Ambulance Service assisted at the scene.
