The Harlan County Lady Bears closed the regular season in familiar fashion — with another impressive defensive performance. Harlan County limited Knox Central to three field goals in the first half on their way to a 53-22 victory over the visiting Lady Panthers.
Seniors Madison Cornett and Sarah Evans had big games for the 24-5 Lady Bears in their final regular season home game with 14 and 10 points, respectively. Seniors Keisha Mimes and Shauntae Lewis were also playing in their final regular season game at Harlan County.
“All four of them have been in the program for five years. The have experienced success and been big part of that success,” said Harlan County coach Anthony Nolan. “As valuable as been to team, they are just as special off the floor. They are great kids with great attitudes.”
Harlan County took control early, outscoring the Lady Panthers 19-4 in the first quarter.
Stittums and Cornett each had three points in the second quarter as the Lady Bears’ lead grew to 33-12 at halftime.
Cornett had four baskets and nine points to pace the Lady Bears in the third quarter as their lead grew by only point in the period, to 46-24.
