Partridge man arrested on sodomy charge

The Harlan County Sheriff’s Office served an indictment warrant Monday on a Partridge man.

Larry Osborne, 22, of Partridge, was arrested on a charge of first-degree sodomy with the victim being under 12 years of age.

Kentucky State Police Det. Jason Joseph presented the case to the grand jury resulting in the indictment being issued on Feb. 4.

According to the indictment, Osborne engaged in deviate sexual intercourse with a minor under the age of 12 from about Aug. 15 until about Oct. 9.

Osborne was arrested by Deputy Matt Cope and lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center on a $50,000 full cash bond.

In other police activity:

* Harlan County Sheriff’s Deputy Danny Lewis arrested Nicholas Shaffer, of Evarts, on Friday following a traffic stop in Wallins.

According to a press release, a quantity of marijuana and one half of an oblong shaped pill was discovered during a search of Shaffer’s vehicle.

Shaffer faces charges of operating a motor vehicle under the influence, reckless driving, rear license not illuminated, giving a police officer a false name, operating a motor vehicle on a suspended license, possession of marijuana, second-degree possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and failure to wear a seat belt.

Lewis was assisted at the scene by Sgt. Miron Southerland and deputies Mitch Alford and Chris Brewer. Shaffer was lodged in the Harlan County Detention center on a $5,000 bond;

* Harry Shuler, 31, of Smith, was arrested Monday by Kentucky State Police Trooper Josh Howard and charged with first-degree promoting contraband, third-degree possession of a controlled substance, two counts of second-degree possession of a controlled substance, operating motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs, failure to wear seat belt, failure to register transfer of motor vehicle, license to be in possession and no registration receipt.

Shuler was lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center;

* Dawn Renee Lloyd, 26, of Cumberland, was arrested by Harlan County Sheriff’s Deputy Matt Cope on a warrant for being a fugitive from another state.
