Local standouts named to 13th Region teams

Both Harlan and Harlan County were well-represented on the recently announced girls 13th Region Coaches Association teams.

The Harlan County Lady Bears placed three players on the 13th Region teams. Freshman Brooklyn Massingill led the way with a first team selection. Massingill was the only freshman selected to the team. The freshman guard posted 14.4 points per game last season to lead Harlan County to the regional semifinals.

Harlan County senior Sarah Evans was named to the second team after recording 10 points and 5.5 rebounds per game. Evans was joined on the second team by Harlan junior Jourdan Ledford.

Harlan County junior point guard Kaitlyn Stittums and Harlan eighth-grade guard Jordan Brock were each named to the region’s third team.

Four Lady Bears were named to the 13th Region senior academic team as Evans, Keisha Mimes, Shauntae Lewis and Madison Cornett each received the honor. Kelly Cox represented the Lady Dragons on the academic team.

The all-13th Region teams included:
