Residents and workers in the city of Loyall who haven’t purchased their 2013 city stickers may soon be ticketed for violating the city ordinance.

During the Loyall City Council meeting on Monday, Mayor Clarence Longworth told council he had instructed Chief of Police Mike Lunsford to begin ticketing those in violation immediately.

The cost of the sticker is $15. When ticketed, a $5 penalty is added for each of the first two offenses, but on the third offense the vehicle will be towed.

Anyone living or working in the city must purchase the sticker, stressed Lunsford, saying towing costs are also added after the third offense.

City manager Mandy Longworth reported the city continues to await word on the success of the Federal Emergency Management grant application for the fire department, which the city needs for the purchase of a new fire truck.

She said the grant requires a 10 percent match, but added the city needs the new truck to better be able to maneuver around the various corners in the city

In other action council:

• Approved minutes of the February meeting;
• Approved reports for the police department, fire department, wastewater management and city streets department;
• Learned the city’s fire chief recently attended a one-day training in Lexington;
• Heard there had been increase in the budgeted dumping fees due to an increase in volume, and not a rate increase;
• Heard that city workers had successfully helped eliminate a water drainage problem near apartments on Courtney Street;
• Received a report the women’s restroom renovations at city hall had been completed and is a much improved facility;
• Received news of an increase in the amount of insurance premium refunds stemming from policy cancellations;
• Approved the financial report as presented.
