The Harlan County Black Bears knocked off their second 14th Region foe in as many outings Thursday with a 10-0 victory over Perry Central.

Four Black Bear pitchers combined to toss a no-hitter against the Commodores. Conner Leisge recorded three strikeouts in two innings in the start on the mound. Anthony Jenkins struck out one batter and issued one walk in one inning of relief. Tyler Cornett recorded a pair of strikeouts in the fourth inning, and Nick Cornett finished the game in the fifth inning.

“To not be on the field much, the pitching has done a good job,” said Harlan County coach John Lewis.

Harlan County struck first with a pair of runs in the first inning. Andrew Dozier reached base after being hit by a pitch. He then stole second and scored on a Tyler Boggs double. Courtesy runner Nick Cornett later scored on a single from Leisge.

Harlan County extended the lead to 10-0 with an eight-run third inning.

“We hit and played well in the first inning. We left some runners on in the second inning, but bounced back in the third,” Lewis said.

Boggs doubled to reach base for the Black Bears. He later scored on a single from Jenkins. Leisge followed with a single and James Bond walked to load the bases. Zach Doss drove in Jenkins with a single. Sawyers Fields singled to drive in a run, while Blake Rutherford and Scotty Bailey each drew walks to force in runs. Fields, Rutherford and Bailey also scored in the inning.

Boggs had a pair of doubles to power Harlan County at the plate. Jenkins, Leisge and Fields each contributed two singles, while Bailey and Doss each added one single.

“The hitting is coming along. They have had a better approach at the plate,” Lewis said. “They are starting do do something with pitches that aren’t a perfect strike.”

Harlan County (3-1) returns to action today against Polk County, Tenn., while Perry Central (0-1) will travel to Pike Central on Saturday.
