The Harlan County Black Bears won two of three during their weekend trip to Tennessee.
Harlan County fell to Polk County, Tenn., on Friday. Harlan County was limited to three hits and committed five errors in a 6-0 loss.
Scotty Bailey, Tyler Boggs and James Bond each had a single for the Black Bears.
Boggs recorded six strikeouts in three innings, but suffered the loss on the mount. Tyler Cornett struck out two batters in one inning of relief. Eighth-grader Jared Sizemore recorded three strikeouts and didn’t allow a run in two innings of relief. Bailey added one strikeout in one inning.
The Black Bears claimed a pair of wins on Saturday.
Harlan County edged Loudon, Tenn., 8-4 in extra innings.
Bailey scored on a Tyler Boggs single in the seven inning to force the extra frame. The Bears then reeled off four runs in the eighth inning.
Bailey had a double and scored four runs to power the Harlan County offense. Boggs, Andrew Dozier and Anthony Jenkins each added a single.
Conner Leisge had one strikeout in the final two innings to earn the win. James Bond recorded one strikeout in six innings in the start.
The Bears defeated Sweetwater, Tenn., 8-5 earlier in the day despite being limited to two hits, singles by Jenkins and Fields.
Gage Burkhart, Nick Cornett and Tyler Cornett pitched two shutout innings each. Josh Lee and Brendan Rutherford pitched in the seventh inning.
Harlan County (5-2) returns to action Tuesday at Letcher Central.
