Lady Comets edge JACES

Reanna Middleton fired in 16 points to lead Cawood (9-3) to a 41-35 victory over James A. Cawood in seventh- and eighth-grade basketball action on Tuesday.

Kaylea Gross’s 13 points led the Trojanettes.

Kaitlin Johnson poured in 27 points as Cawood (11-0) stayed unbeaten on the season with a 37-20 victory over James A. Cawood in fifth- and sixth-grade basketball action on Tuesday.

Brianna Smith paced the Trojanettes with 12 points.

James A. Cawood will host Wallins on Monday, while Cawood will travel to Lynn Camp.

Lady Skins down Green Hills

Kacie Russel’s 11 points led Cumberland (8-6) to a 34-9 victory over Green Hills in seventh- and eighth-grade basketball action on Tuesday.

Brooklyn Hensley’s four points paced Green Hills.

T.C. Summersall and Nikki Creech each had eight points to lead Cumberland (5-8) to a 36-30 victory in the fifth- and sixth-grade contest.

Lydia Cabalerro and Kandace Scruggs each tossed in 10 points for the Lady Falcons.

In previously unreported action, the Lady Skins fell 29-15 to Wallins.

Green Hills returns to action Monday at home against Rosspoint. Cumberland will host James A. Cawood on Tuesday.

Henson leads Harlan to win

Madelynn Henson scored 14 points and Jordan Brock added 12 as Harlan ran its record to 16-2 with a 50-16 rout of visiting Pineville in seventh- and eighth-grade basketball action Monday.

Harlan returns to action Thursday at home against Middlesboro.

Swappin’ Meetin’ 5K and mile walk set for Oct. 6

The first annual Kingdom Come Swappin’ Meetin’ 5K run and a one-mile walk will be held Saturday, Oct. 6 beginning at 8 a.m. on the Cumberland campus of Southeast Kentucky Community and Technical College.

The event will begin in the lower parking lot of the campus with participants following a course across the city of Cumberland before returning to the campus. The event is being held in conjunction with the 48th Kingdom Come Swappin’ Meetin’, one of the premier folk, arts and music festivals in Kentucky.

The entry fee for the 5K or the one mile run is $15 in advance of the race date, or $20 on the day of the event. Following the race, a raffle will be held with the grand prize being a one-night stay in a cabin at the Harlan County Campground at Putney.
