A Cranks man was arrested early Thursday after Kentucky State Police (KSP) received a complaint concerning a domestic dispute. Police arrested Robert Simpson, 32, on charges including first-degree assault and four counts of first-degree wanton endangerment.
Troopers Jared Boggs and James Earl Hensley responded to the complaint, which was made by a juvenile who called KSP Post 10 and said that her mother and father had been fighting and her father had “gotten his guns and began to shoot the phone.”
“Prior to our arrival Amanda Simpson (Robert Simpson’s wife) had exited the home through the rear bedroom window to get away from her husband Robert Simpson,” stated Boggs. “We located her and she advised us that Robert Simpson was intoxicated on Xanax and destroying the house.”
Boggs noted Robert Simpson had discharged multiple weapons.
“Amanda stated that Robert had a pistol out shooting it inside the home. She also stated that he shot a shotgun inside the home as well,” said Boggs.
According to Boggs, Amanda Simpson did have wounds on her body.
“Amanda Simpson had a wound on her left wrist that she advised she couldn’t remember what happened to it. She had a small wound on her right leg that she thinks is where a pellet from the shotgun blast struck her,” said Boggs.
Boggs stated Amanda Simpson claimed there were four juveniles inside the home when Robert Simpson began shooting. Boggs placed Robert Simpson under arrest and he was lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center.
In other police activity, the Harlan County Sheriff’s Office arrested William Paul Monroe, 30, of Saint Mary, on charges of second-degree escape and trafficking a controlled substance within 1,000 feet of a school.

“On Nov. 1, at approximately 1 p.m. detectives with the Harlan County Sheriff’s Office arrested Monroe on a warrant from Marion County charging him with second-degree escape,” said Ball. “It was reported that Monroe escaped from the Marion Adjustment Center on Sept. 30.”
According to Ball, Monroe was also served with a separate indictment.
“Monroe was charged with an indictment from Harlan County charging him with trafficking a controlled substance within 1,000 feet of a school,” said Ball. “Monroe was arrested without incident in the city of Harlan.”
Monroe was lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center.
