An Enterprise Staff Report

The Harlan Green Dragons weren’t able to overcome a difficult second quarter Monday, falling 54-49 to 14th Region foe June Buchanan.

The visiting Crusaders lived from the perimeter in the first quarter. June Buchanan hit five treys in the opening period to take a two-point lead. Lazarus Teny paced JBS with six points in the first. The junior guard finished with 19 points, including five 3-pointers to lead all scorers.

Harlan hit just two shots from the field in the second quarter as June Buchanan pulled away. Teny had five more points, as the Crusaders took a 32-20 advantage into the half.

Harlan’s Nathan Young led a second-half comeback attempt. Young had nine of his team-high 15 points in the third quarter as the Dragons reduced the deficit to eight. Harlan outscored the Crusaders 13-10 to close the gap to five in the fourth quarter, but it wasn’t enough, and June Buchanan held on for the win.

Harlan (2-5) returns to action today at home against Middlesboro in a 52nd District double-header. June Buchanan (4-1) will host Jenkins on Thursday.
