Comets claim 3rd place

The Cawood Comets put on a shooting clinic on their way to a47-45 victory over Cumberland in the third-place of the county seventh- and eighth-grade tournament on Tuesday.

The Comets hit 12 shots from behind the arc to knock off the Redskins. Colby Cochran had six treys and 18 points to pace Cawood, with Drew Brewer adding 17 points and five 3-pointers.

Cumberland trailed by eight late in the fourth quarter before mountain a comeback. The Redskins reeled off seven straight points to close the gap to one. Austin Adams pushed the lead to two by hitting one-of-two from the free-throw line. Andrew Creech raced down the floor on the final possession and hit a shot that could have tied the game, but came after time expired.
