The Kentucky State Police said Tuesday that the death investigation of Ronnie King has now been changed to a murder investigation.
King was a former mayor and council member at Evarts. He was also the manager of Eastbrook Apartments.
KSP Public Affairs Officer Shane Jacobs said the autopsy results indicate that King, 59, of Evarts, died from a gunshot wound.
King was found dead inside his residence on Kelly Street on Monday after his brother went inside to check on him.
The state police and the Evarts Fire Department were called to the scene around 11 a.m. after the discovery of King’s body and an apparent fire inside the house.
Harlan County Emergency Management Director David McGill said on Monday that the fire was contained to inside the house.
Harlan County Coroner Phillip Bianchi sent the body for an autopsy.
Jacobs said personnel from the Kentucky State Police Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS) branch from Frankfort were called in to assist in the investigation, along with the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
No arrest has been made in the case.
