Shoe Show Mega Store will open at the Woodland Plaza Shopping Center, in Harlan, at 10 a.m. on Friday. Store manager Billie Rowe said lots of specials will be available on that day.

With the opening of the mega store in Harlan, the total number of stores in the Shoe Show Inc. chain will be 1,126. Robert B. Tucker opened the first Shoe Show store 53 years ago with used carpeting bought from a church and racks that were spray painted by Tucker and others. The first store employed Tucker, his wife and one part-time employee. The company now has over 8,900 employees and stores in 37 states.

Shoe Show officials said some of the company’s growth has been through acquisitions of companies such as Burlington Shoes in 1986, Saltier Shoes in 1993, Pic N’Pay, which operated under the names Pic N’Pay, Shoe City and Shoe World, in 2000, Shoebilee/El Bee Shoes in 2002 and their most recent acquisition of Just For Feet in 2004.

The Shoe Department Encore division began in 2008. This division averages approximately two to three times the square footage of a standard Shoe Department store. Shoe Department Encore caters to a broad range of customers featuring footwear for men, women and children. They offer a wide variety of shoes and price points.

Officials said the Shoe Show division carries its own popular priced brands as well as Eastland, Timberland, Tommy Hilfiger, Hush Puppies, Life Stride, Rocky Boots, K Swiss, Reebok, Nike, Keds, New Balance and Hi-Tec.

Shoe Shoe was previously located in the Village Center Mall. With the move and the opening of a mega store, there will be a larger selection of shoes available.

“We hope everyone will make plans to visit our new location in the Woodland Plaza Shopping Center,” said Rowe. “As always we will be offering sales and clearance items for our customers.”
