Martha Jewell Roberts, 69, of Rhea, passed from this life on Monday, May 14, 2012, at the UK Medical Center. Martha was born on January 14, 1943, to Arthur and Sally Stewart in Harlan County and had lived here all of her life. She was a homemaker and a member of the House of Prayer at Putney.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her former husband, John C. Roberts; a daughter, Sally Jo Roberts; sisters, Goldie Stewart and Opal Lee Watkins; brothers, James Stewart, Tommy Stewart, Benny Stewart, Billy Stewart, Arthur D. Stewart, David G. Stewart and Delmore Stewart; and a sister-in-law, Mary Stewart.

Martha is survived by five children: Iris Adams of Rhea, Jackie McMillian and friend, Roasie Melton of Evarts, Johnny H. Roberts of Rhea, Tony Roberts and wife, Pauline, of Baxter, and Vanessa Perkins and husband, George, of Baxter; a sister, Jean Turner; two brothers, Alex Stewart and wife, Janice, and Odell Stewart and wife, Martha; sister-in-law, Jewell Stewart of Rhea; seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Visitation will be Wednesday, May 16, beginning at 1:00 PM at the chapel of Harlan Funeral Home with funeral services at 2:00 pm. The Reverend Bruce Bingham and the Reverend Jerry Kirby will officiate.

Burial will follow at Park Howard Cemetery at Wallins. Pallbearers are grandchildren, George Perkins, and other family and friends.
