Laura Denise Cowan “Laura D,” age 40 of Pansy, KY went to be with our Lord on May 20, 2012 at the Hospice Care Center in Hazard, KY after a courageous battle with cancer. Laura was a lifelong resident of Harlan County. She loved working in her gardens, fishing, and taking care of animals.

She is preceded in death by her step-father, J.R. Hensley; her grandparents, Dave and Dora Bargo; a sister, Christina Cowan; and a dear friend, Hattie Nantz.

She is survived by her loving companion of 23 years, Eugene Hall of Pansy, KY; her mother, Mona Jane Cowan of Cumberland, KY; her brothers, Sam (Carolyn) Cowan of Gulston, KY, Joe (Joyce) Cowan of Grays Knob, KY, and John Cowan of Pansy, KY; nephews, Sam Cowan, Jr., Connor Cowan; nieces, Shelby Cowan and Casey Cowan. A host of other relatives and friends also survive. Special thanks to the nurse Christie in the infusion center at Harlan ARH, Darrell and Vickie Saylor, John and Sandy Lundy, Frank and Rita Swanson, Kelles Greer and wife, Debra Hall, Doug Hall, Carson and Lita Gilbert, Cecil and Missy Hall and several other friends.

Visitation will be held at the Grays Knob Church of God on Tuesday, May 22, 2012 after 5 p.m.

Funeral Services will be conducted at the Grays Knob Church of God on Wednesday, May 23, 2012 at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Don Smith and Rev. Kelles Greer officiating. Burial will follow at the Hall-Cowan Cemetery in Pansy, KY with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
