She had been under Hospice care during her short battle with cancer. Gladys was born in Madison County, North Carolina on May 1, 1936, lived and educated in Harlan County most of her life. She worked several years as a factory worker in Cincinatti, Ohio. Upon returning to Harlan, she worked and retired from Harlan ARH. She kept a Christian home for her husband and children. She was a member of Sunny Acres First Church of God.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Emmett Sergent; her parents, the Rev. John and Lockie (Moore) Pack; her sister and brother-in-law, Eileen (Pack) Johnson and Elzo Johnson; several other precious family members and close friend, Mildred Clem.
She leaves behind three children, Gary (Durinda) Sergent of Villa Hills, KY, Vicki Moore of Goose Creek, SC, Steve (Marsha) Sergent of Rhea, KY. In addition, she leaves behind a brother, Ervin (Janet) Pack of Mt. Washington, KY and a sister, Mary (Otis) Williams of Lafollette, TN; nine grandchildren, Kathlyn (Steve) Lokey, Melinda (Tim) Capazzi, Ashley (James) Greenawalt, Becky (Sonny) Wiseman, Lauren Sergent, Hannah (Eric) Greene, Austin (Emmy) Sergent, Jeremy Wriston and Greg Wriston. Also surviving are ten great grandchildren, Zac, J.T., Carson, Madison, Logan, Riley, Cayson, Noah, Aiden, and Leah. A host of beloved nieces, nephews, family, close friends Madge Haynes, Elizabeth Smith, Sharon Smith, and Bill Estes.
There will be a memorial service, “A celebration of her life” on Saturday, September 29, 2012 at Sunny Acres First Church of God with family receiving guests beginning at 2 o’clock with a celebration starting at 3 o’clock with the Rev. James P. Blair officiating. In lieu of flowers, it is ask that you are led to make a contribution to Sunny Acres First Church of God or Hospice of the Bluegrass.
