Roxie Sumpter, age 82, of Gordon, KY passed away on Saturday, October 6, 2012, at the Whitesburg Appalachian Regional Healthcare. She was born in Letcher County on December 20, 1929 to the late Henry and Susie Smith Sumpter. Roxie worked for the Letcher County School System for 47 years and was a member of the Hurricane Gap Old Regular Baptist Church.

She is preceded in death by her brothers, Brunus, Shelby and Sidas Sumpter; and sisters, Virgellan Divine, Kirksie Matherly and Reo Huron.

She is survived by one sister, Muriel Barger and William of Ulva, KY.

The family will receive friends in the chapel of the Tri City Funeral Home on Monday, October 08, 2012 between 5 – 9 pm. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 09, 2012, in the chapel at 12 pm with Elder Charles Shepherd and Elder Jimmy Ray Bailey. Interment will follow in the Sumpter Memorial Cemetery in Gordon, KY with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
