Barry Cox, 85, of East Palatka, FL passed away, Thursday, October 25, 2012 at the Brandon Regional Hospital in Brandon, FL following an extended illness. Born in Fort Eustis, VA, Barry had been married to Rena Mabeltini Cox of Liggett, KY. He was a resident of East Palatka since 1969, but had been living in Brandon, FL for the past four years with family.

In high school he was an avid sportsman playing baseball, basketball and soccer. During the late 1940’s and early 1950’s he played minor league Braves baseball, including starring for the Harlan Smokies. He was instrumental in the early years for little league baseball in Palatka, FL. He proudly served in the United States Army just prior to the Korean Conflict. In 1990 Mr. Cox retired from the Georgia Pacific Corp., in Palatka, as a Scheduling and Planning Manager after 35 years of service. He attended the St. Monica Catholic Church in Palatka where he also managed the Bingo program from 1970-2004. He loved fishing and bowling, watching baseball and spending time with his grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Stuart and Victoria Cox; his wife, Rena Mabeltini Cox; three brothers, Paul Cox, Leroy Cox, and Cecil Cox; and a sister, Margie Butz.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Vicki and Charles Sansbury of West Jefferson, NC, and Michele and Rich Torrey of Brandon; three sons and daughters-in-law, Alan and Lynn Cox of Kissimmee, FL, Craig and Georgia Cox of Brandon and Lee and April Cox of Douglasville, GA; a brother, Ernest Cox of Marco Island, FL; a sister, Hester McNeily of Baltimore, MD; ten grandchildren, Wendy Sansbury, Amanda Craven, Cheryl McGrirr, Brian Torrey, Jacob Torrey, Benjamin Cox, Barry Cox, Samantha Cox, Stevie Cox, and Ashley Cox; and five great-grandchildren with three on the way.

Calling hours will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 31, 2012 at Masters Funeral Home of Palatka. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 1, 2012 at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Palatka Memorial Gardens in Palatka, FL. Military honors are to be bestowed by the United States Army.
