Elbert Lewis, 80, of Harlan, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, December 13, 2012 at his home. He was a caring father and grandfather. Elbert was born November 4, 1932 in Perry County and had lived in Harlan since 1964.

Elbert was a devoted member of the Mary Helen United Methodist Church where he served as Trustee. He and his late wife, Carol, were faithful workers at Christ’s Hands until they were limited by illness. Elbert was retired as owner/operator of Lewis & Son Trucking Company after 30 years of service. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Elbert was preceded in death by his wife, Carol Deaton Lewis; his parents, Gillis and Leoatie Lewis; a son, Steve Lewis; two sisters, Beulah Stiltner and Greva Mae Smith; and three brothers, Robert, Estill and Junior Lewis.

Survivors include his daughter, Susie Hensley and her husband Barkley, of Lexington; daughter-in-law, Debbie Lewis Anderson, of Harlan; a sister, Billie O’Nan; a brother, Branson Lewis; four grandchildren: Ginger (Kevin) Farley, Steven (Tara) Lewis, Rachel (Matt) Wells, and Rebecca (Drew) Stahl; and four great-grandchildren, Audrey, Autumn, Olivia and Mason Lewis.

The family will receive friends from 6–8 pm Friday evening at Harlan Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 12 noon Saturday, Dec. 15, at the funeral home with the Reverend Robert Landis officiating.

Interment services will follow at the Resthaven Cemetery chapel with Military Rites presented by the Harlan Honor Guard.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Mary Helen United Methodist Church or Hospice of the Bluegrass-Harlan.
