Jeff Ellis Ewing, 62, of Evarts went home to be with the Lord Sunday, January 6, 2013, at the Harlan Health and Rehabilitation Center following a long illness. Born December 13, 1950 in Middlesboro, he had lived here most of his life. Jeff was a retired coal miner with 28 years of service to Eastover and Manalapan Mining companies and a veteran of the U.S. Army. He loved fishing and hunting but he especially loved his church, the Evarts Baptist Church, where he was a very active member before his illness.

Jeff was preceded in death by his mother, Azalee Ewing Holbrook; his step-father, Earl Holbrook; and two brothers, Charles “Bud” Henegar and Don Ewing.

Survivors include his wife Nancy Novella Vanover Ewing, Evarts; five children, Trevor Ewing, Evarts; Kala Ewing, Evarts; Amanda Wyatt, Corbin; Rebecca Gardner, Birmingham, AL; Elisabeth Steppadrweg, Germany; three brothers, John Ewing and wife, Imogene, Lejunior; Joe Ewing and wife, Angel, Evarts; Ben Ewing, Evarts; three sisters, Kathleen Smith and husband, Robert, Hulen, KY; Ruth Middleton and husband, J.D., Jonesboro, TN; Irene Stout and husband, Wayne, Rutledge, TN; and two sisters-in-law, Shelby Henegar and Susie Ewing.

Also surviving are 11 grandchildren, Zoie Ewing, Harper Carr, Brayden Bumgardner, Emily, Ashley and Layla Wyatt, Hannah Pickard, Nicholas and Luke Gardner, and two in Germany; and a host of nieces, nephews, the staff of Hospice, and numerous friends.

Visitation will be held Tuesday from 5 pm until 9 pm in the chapel of the Evarts Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, January 9, 2013, at 11 am at the Evarts Baptist Church with the Reverend Larry Parker and the Reverend Larry White officiating.

Burial will follow in Evarts Memorial Gardens with military rites by the Harlan Honor Guard.

Pallbearers will be Trevor Ewing, Cody Logan, C.J. Ewing, Ross Ewing, Wes Stout, Avery Ewing, Charlie Ewing, and Malvin Vanover, Jr.
